Ideal Boilers had a visit from the Tigers’ Irish international David Meyler on 15 December.
David spent two hours meeting staff, signing autographs, shirts and posing for selfies to thank Ideal employees for their support for the Club and ROAR Support Fund, which works with young people, helping them develop the personal and professional skills that employers look for.
He said: “It was fantastic to visit Ideal and to chat with the workers there about the very important and great work that they do. It isn’t the first time I’ve had the pleasure of visiting the company, having been here last season when I, along with a few of the other lads, were shown how the boilers that Ideal make are put together.
He added: “Ideal are huge supporters of our football club and the KC Stadium, and it’s wonderful that a national company such as Ideal has its roots and base in Hull.”
Chief operating officer of Ideal, Doug Lloyd, said: “We all thoroughly enjoyed welcoming David back to our headquarters, it’s always great to see him when he gets a chance to come and say hello. Many of our employees are huge Tigers fans and his visit was supported by a great turnout.
“We are a Club sponsor and corporate sponsor of the Tigers Trust, which through its ROAR! Programme encourages local businesses and people to get involved with their community.
“Throughout the summer Ideal’s HR team ran weekly workshops with local students, aged 16-17, as a part of the National Citizenship Service programme, which helps young people to develop key life skills, incorporating a variety of outward bound activities, such as rock climbing and team building exercises, as well as a week’s residency at Hull University where the students also undertook charity work.
Ideal’s HR team helped the students relate what they achieved in their outward bound activities to the skills they will need in the workplace, such as team-building and communication. They also guided them to make the best of the skills they have, including working their week’s experience into their CVs and personal statements for when they join the world of work.
Doug concluded: “The experience for our staff was totally different from their day jobs, but they found it really fulfilling – and as an employer it’s great to give something back to the wider community.”
