Plumb Centre and Polypipe Building Products launch nationwide plastics recycling scheme

Plumbers and builders can now turn waste plastic into rewards thanks to a new nationwide recycling scheme from Plumb Centre and Polypipe Building Products – helping the trade cut landfill waste and earn perks along the way.

Installers simply save their waste plastic and drop it off at Plumb Centre branches to be rewarded with a £5 Greggs voucher on the first deposit, with more rewards available the more they participate. Installers are encouraged to keep hold of plastic packaging, damaged products and offcuts and hand them over to the branch team on their next visit. When they scan the QR code on the counter to log the drop off they’ll receive a digital Greggs voucher – so the next coffee and sausage roll break is covered.

Establishing waste plastic collection points in over 400 Plumb Centre branches nationwide, is the latest step in what has already been a multi-year project between Plumb Centre and Polypipe Building Products. In its first year, the project diverted 2.8 tonnes of plastic from landfill, equating to 3.2 tonnes of carbon – the same as a return flight from Leeds to Las Vegas. The team effort was recognised by multiple industry awards, taking home Environmental / Sustainability Initiative of the year at the Builders Merchants Awards in 2025 and 2025. The project was also shortlisted for Environmental Initiative of the Year at the Builders Merchant Journal Awards 2025. Matt Williams, managing director at Polypipe Building Products, said: “We’re incredibly proud of our recycling initiative with our merchant partner, Wolseley Plumb Centre. This project is about more than just statistics. It’s about engaging with the entire industry and fostering a culture of sustainability.”

Laura Adams, head of sustainability at Wolseley Group, added: “We understand the importance of working with our supply partners to identify and implement more circular economy solutions. So, we are delighted to be partnering with Polypipe Building Products on this new initiative that will help us and our customers to reduce our environmental impact.”

Additional info

What can be accepted?

All kinds of plastic will be accepted, excluding anything which has been in contact with chemicals or other hazardous materials, human waste, food waste, concrete dust or brick dust. Pipe offcuts must be less than 0.5m in length so they will fit in the bag without need for cutting down in branch.

What’s in it for customers?

The first time a customer brings their waste in, they’ll receive 200 rewards points - enough to exchange for a £5 voucher. Each subsequent deposit will earn 50 points which can be saved towards more rewards.
