The Heat Pump Association beyond Brexit

Despite the result of the UK’s referendum decision to leave the European Union, the Heat Pump Association feels that this will have little effect on its relationship with other EU countries in terms of unified standards and other technical issues.

“The HPA will continue to work with our EU colleagues to maintain and harmonise quality standards within the heat pump industry,” stated Mike Nankivell, president of the HPA, “as we have much in common in terms of the need to produce low cost, low carbon heat”.

The HPA is keen to understand from government how this referendum result will impact our Building Regulations (e.g. Energy Performance in Building Directive (EPBD) from the EU) and Renewable Energy targets.

We now have an opportunity to assist in the development of new policies, appropriate to the UK, going forward.  However we are concerned that any relaxing of the emphasis on low carbon, renewable heat should be actively discouraged.
