Spec Expert rings bell for CIBSE

CIBSE has popped open the champayne to formally endorse NES Specification Expert as the recommended software for use in the building services industry.
CIBSE (the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) has backed the AMTECH Group in its promotion of the National Engineering Specification (NES) software packages; Specification Expert and O & M.

Under the new agreement, CIBSE will exclusively endorse the National Engineering Specification (NES) software, training and associated customer services, and now recommends the products & services for use by building specialists.

NES Specification Expert and O & M, were bought by building services firm AMTECH earlier this year.

NES Specification Expert leads users through the process of assembling building services specifications and contains a library of relevant content enabling users to meet British and EU standards. It has up-to-date specification clauses for use in any form of contract, backed by time-saving tools such as audit trail creation and check lists. Its users can also download a copy of British standards online.

NES Specification Expert is used by CIBSE engineers, who form part of the product's advisiory panel.

Speaking shortly after a champayne reception at the M&E exhibition's CIBSE stand on October 9, AMTECH's commercial director David Bell said 'There was no formal CIBSE endorsed product before. The endorsement gives someone using the product confidence because it has been okayed by peers and used by them'.

The AMTECH group is the UK’s largest supplier of specialist software to the building services industry, through its AMTECH, Estimation and NES brands which include specification, design, calculations, sizing, pricing, procurement, project management, accounts management, maintenance, test and certification.

Bell added 'Ultimately we see it joining up with design calculations. AMTECH has thousands of design engineers using calculation software'.

The Spec Expert software was originally the brainchild of CIBSE, who were keen to develop such software to speed up the time it took to produce specifications.

CIBSE chief executive Stephen Matthews said: 'We are delighted to be working with AMTECH and look forward to exploring further opportunities for future collaboration and developing a first rate specification system focused on engineering excellence and sustainability.'
