A 20-year old apprentice has been named as the best young plumber in the south in the regional heat of this year's SkillPLUMB competition.
George Caddick, an apprentice with Blue Bay Plumbing and Heating and studying at Cornwall College, scored most highly out of nine competitors who went head-to-head in a plumbing task to install a small central heating system.
The regional heat was held at Bridgwater College on 26 June.
Second place went to Jon-Marc Sullivan of Sullivan Plumbing and Heating and K College, while the third place slot was won by Lee Hopper of Mid Kent College.
With the final heat now complete, SummitSkills, the competition organiser, will shortly announce which contestants from across all regional heats will be invited to the UK final in November. The final takes place during The Skills Show at the NEC in Birmingham.
SkillPLUMB has the UK Copper Board as its premier sponsor and this recent heat was held alongside SkillELECTRIC and SkillFRIDGE at Bridgwater College's Energy Skills Centre.
SkillPLUMB is a feeder route for competitors to potentially go forward and represent their country in 2015 in Brazil at the biennial WorldSkills competition - the world's largest skills competition.
