Skerritt wins £3.8m school contract

Nottingham-based building services contractor Skerritt has won a contract worth £3.8 million to carry out M&E services at one of the city's secondary schools.
Skerritt is nearing completion on a 52-week programme of electrical and mechanical works at the new 12,000sqm The Becket School.

Construction of the new school is the result of 10 years of planning. Due to open in September 2009, the new building will bring together upper and lower schools that until now have operated on two sites set a mile and a half apart.

The contract, for main contractors Rok Building, is due to be delivered in July 2009 and forms part of Skerritt's £12m programme of education works for 2007-8, which includes Nottingham University's Jubilee Campus.

Skerritt provides all m&e services at the secondary school including a building energy management system incorporating a small-scale woodchip fuel boiler. The system has been designed for use as a teaching resource. The work also features a mixed-mode heat-recovery ventilation system and thermal insulation.

The contract includes work on 60 classrooms, science laboratories, a technical workshop, assembly hall, chapel, sports and admin facilities.
