Seven stars make shortlist for CIBSE/ASHRAE Graduate Award

Seven leading young building services engineers have been shortlisted for the 2012 CIBSE/ASHRAE Graduate of the Year Award. Supported by three leading international engineering institutions, the Award is now part of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers' Young Engineers' Awards sponsored by Lochinvar and Ruskin Air Management. It will be presented alongside the CIBSE Employer of the Year Award in October.
The shortlist, with the chance of winning the first prize of a trip to the ASHRAE Winter Conference in Dallas, Texas is:

· Baljit Bhogal, Coventry University and WSP;
· Georgina Donnelly, Cambridge University and Arup;
· Thomas Greenhill, Bristol University and Max Fordham LLP;
· Chris Marien, Brunel and Calfordseaden;
· Dinachi Onuzo, Imperial College and AECOM;
· Imran Shaikh, BITS Pilani (India) and CKR Consulting Engineers, Dubai;
· Lee Tabis, Leeds College of Building and NG Bailey.

All of the finalists will give a short presentation to the judging panel at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) in London on Thursday, 11 October 2012.

As well as the trip to the ASHRAE Winter Meeting, there are cash bursaries from the Rumford Club on offer to two runners up. The occasion will also see the presentation of the IMechE Construction and Building Services Division Annual Award. This will be followed by the annual ASHRAE Presidential Lecture given by the Society's president, Tom Watson, visiting from the US.

Tom Watson is a member of the Graduate Award judging panel alongside David Fisk, President of CIBSE, Rumford Club chairman David Hughes and last year's award winner Angela Malynn.

The panel, which is chaired by CIBSE ASHRAE Group Chairman Professor Tim Dwyer, must decide which of the finalists shows the best combination of communication skills, sound engineering knowledge and practical understanding while presenting to a full capacity auditorium.

It will be the 17th time this annual Award has been presented. The winner is selected for their potential to serve as an ambassador for young engineers at the ASHRAE conference, held in a different US city each year.

Attendance at the Awards event, which starts at 5pm and concludes with a hot buffet dinner, is free and open to all, but anyone wishing to attend must book their free place in advance at: www.cibse.org/yeaeventbooking
