RoSPA launches bid to make H&S a line manager priority

The views of health and safety professionals in the building services sector are sought by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) which wants line managers and team leaders to better manage accidents and ill-health prevention.
The safety charity's Big Workplace Discussion, launched this week, focuses on the duties of directors and senior managers and how to achieve effective leadership of health and safety by those in operational management roles.

'There are clear legal duties for those at the top of an organisation to lead, but the development of a healthy and safety working culture depends critically on the role played by line managers. As well as ensuring that directors and senior managers are fully involved, we want to focus down on to what team leaders need to feel, think, know, say and do to ensure that board level health and safety objectives are met at workplace level', said Roger Bibbings, occupational safety adviser at the RoSPA.

RoSPA would like to hear from h&s professionals about what characterises a good line manager or team leader when it comes to health and safety. RoSPA will host a seminar in September to discuss findings and how they can be shared. For details visit www.rospa.com/WorkplaceSafety/BigWorkplaceDiscussion.

You can submit your suggestions by July 9 to Roger Bibbings at rbibbings@rospa.com
