NG Bailey’s off-site division has secured an order worth £5.5million from Carillion, for the provision of 12 nodes for BAA’s Heathrow Terminal Five Concourse C (T5C).
The nodes, structures which connect the airport's departure lounges to the aircrafts, will facilitate the quick and easy loading of passengers on to aircraft such as the new Airbus A380, by allowing more than 500 passengers to enter through three separate aircraft doors.

This latest project is part of Bailey Off-Site's ongoing involvement at Terminal 5C, which has already seen the installation of 190 metres of primary plant corridor modules and four core service risers, each at 25m tall with a 24m² footprint.

'We were able to engage in the planning process with both the main contractor and client and in doing so influence the end product, which is constructed in a very different way, compared with traditional methods,' commented Lee Horton, general manager of Bailey Off-Site.

The nodes are created using a hybrid of off-site manufactured elements including a volumetric reception area, panelised wall sections and several modular components including a plant room, lift shaft and stair unit. The components are all manufactured at the company's off-site facility before being delivered to the Heathrow site and installed within a week.

'Winning this contract is testament to what Off-Site Manufacture (OSM) is capable of delivering - innovative solutions for clients that fit their individual needs,' Horton added. 'OSM also brings with it significant savings in terms of cost, time and labour and waste on-site.'
