New Hetas guide hot off the press

Each year, Hetas publishes a guide to approved appliances, equipment and products for use with biomass, wood and solid mineral fuels and the latest issue of the guide is now in print.

Loose sheets from the fuel section of the Hetas guide.

Hetas works for consumer safety and the wider public interest in safe, efficient and environmentally responsible use of biomass and other solid fuels. The guide helps designers, retailers, installers, maintainers and users of solid fuel and biomass appliances to find products that comply with the highest quality standards.

New this year, 300 appliances have gained Hetas Ecodesign compliant status, showing that they meet the government’s requirements under the Ecodesign regulations for emissions and efficiency. All appliances are third party independently tested to verify their performance credentials.

Hetas chief executive, Bruce Allen, said: “In the context of the global battle to reduce carbon in our environment, our role in helping our members contribute to measurable pollution reduction through better products and practice is more important than ever.

“The industry has taken the challenge very seriously, with manufacturers delivering cleaner and cleaner appliances which, combined with correct use, fuel and maintenance can reduce the impact of domestic burning.”

The guide includes efficiency figures, helping to determine whether a particular appliance is suited to a property and can be installed in accordance with building regulations, and also shows when an appliance is DEFRA exempt or MCS certified.
