New-Generation Toshiba MiNi-SMMS: small in size, big in performance

Toshiba Air Conditioning is expanding its portfolio with a mini variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system that takes advantage of low-GWP R32 refrigerant. The new-generation R32 MiNi-SMMS VRF system provides comfort in a highly efficient and effective manner for small commercial and high-end residential premises.

Toshiba Air Conditioning is a part of Global Comfort Solutions, a business unit of the HVAC segment of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), the leading global provider of healthy, safe, sustainable and intelligent building and cold chain solutions.

In order to support a decarbonization journey for customers, the latest generation Toshiba R32 MiNi-SMMS, with a reduced amount of the refrigerant charge, has accomplished an 80% drop in CO2 equivalent emissions*1 against the previous model.*2The R32 MiNi-SMMS is the first Toshiba VRF product manufactured in Europe, facilitating prompt deliveries to customers.

Committed to addressing global challenges of climate change and soaring energy costs, Toshiba Air Conditioning uses technologies such as twin rotary compressors, inverters and intelligent VRF control that are instrumental in attaining SEER close to 10 and SCOP up to 5.2 in this compact product. The single-fan chassis models, which cover 4 to 6HP in capacity, measures just 1050mm high and weighs only 100kg to ease product handling and integration for installers.

The new MiNi-SMMS offers a year-around comfort with wide temperature operating range from -20°C for heating and up to +46°C for cooling, optimized by as-needed defrosting function and new wired remote control RBC-AWSU52-E featuring Bluetooth connectivity for operation by smartphone.

To cover all room shapes/constraints, eleven types of indoor unit are available from 0.3HP to 5HP, a number of which feature advanced air filtration solutions for projects that require high indoor air quality. The quiet indoor unit emits just 23dB(A), less than rustling leaves, while the outdoor unit emits down to 52dB(A)*3 *4 at maximum operating level, which users can reduce to minimum 44dB(A) in night mode if required.

Another advantage is extended flexibility for installers, consultants and specifiers. For instance, the system can accommodate pipe runs up to 300m in length and up to 50m in height between outdoor and indoor units*5, while 20Pa available static pressure further contributes to flexible integration of the outdoor unit. Notably, installers and maintenance professionals can easily access system data from either outdoor or indoor units by using Toshiba link adaptor.

As R32 is A2L (ISO 817), meaning it carries a ‘low toxicity’ and ‘low flammability’ rating, Toshiba Air Conditioning offers a complete package of safety solutions in accordance with IEC60335-2-40ed6 requirements. Safety devices include leak detectors, shut-off valves and a battery kit in the event of a blown fuse. Toshiba selection software helps specifiers and consultants to select the optimal safety solutions.
