National Skills Academy launches new guides

A series of new learner manuals has been produced by the National Skills Academy for Environmental Technologies and is intended to provide installers of heat pumps and water harvesting systems with the background knowledge required to install, commission, service and maintain the equipment.

In addition to supporting the delivery of the QCF Level 3 awards in these disciplines, the manuals are also available as standalone documents. The Skills Academy says they are useful for anyone looking to increase their knowledge in these areas; either during training, prior to up-skilling or while at work.

Areas covered by the manuals include: installation and commissioning and servicing and maintenance and focus on domestic systems.

Other Skills Academy products include solar thermal and photovoltaics manuals, a guide to tendering, support on completing pre-qualification questionnaires and an Introduction to Environmental Technologies. All aim to help businesses to capitalise on low carbon market opportunities.

Cathryn Hickey, executive director of the Skills Academy, said: 'Training should not end in the classroom and these guides will help installers maintain their knowledge, acting as useful reference material while in the workplace.'

Installation and Commissioning for heat pumps and water harvesting systems are both priced at £29.99, while Servicing and Maintenance costs £19.99.
