NAPIT launches microgeneration certification scheme

NAPIT has been approved to certify installers for electrical and heating microgeneration technologies and hopes to help them expand their skills to renewable energy.
Having secured approval to certify installers under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS), its newly-launched competent person scheme covers five renewable energy technologies: solar thermal hot water, solar photovoltaic, wind turbines, heat pumps (ground source and air-source) and biomass combustion.

Installers have already pre-registered to become members prior to the MCS launch.

Dave Cowburn, NAPIT's managing director of Standards said: 'NAPIT have been able to put together a cost effective scheme that offers all renewable technologies and all of the associated self-certification schemes for Building Regulations; no other scheme operator has delivered such a complete solution.'

NAPIT, (National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers) is a government approved register holder for contractors within the electrical, ventilation, plumbing and heating industries to meet building regulations in England and Wales.

Details of NAPIT's Microgeneration Competent Person Scheme and how to apply can be found at: www.napit.org.uk/microgeneration.asp
