Mitsubishi Electric pushes sustainable message at party conferences

Mitsubishi Electric's sustainable solutions manager, Martin Fahey, recently attended the three major political party conferences as part of the Sustainability Hub initiative.

The theme of this year's conference receptions was Delivering the green economy; is there a political will? with Sustainability Hub members looking to engage with key political stakeholders on sustainable economic development and climate change.

Mr Fahey met the Liberal Democrats in Glasgow, the Labour Party in Brighton and the Conservative Party in Manchester. Senior members of every party attended each event.

He said: 'All of the major parties realise that Government has an important role to play in helping us tackle climate change. We decided to take part in the Sustainability Hub because we want to show that business is ready to join forces with whoever is in Downing Street to maximise energy efficiency in the country.'

The Sustainability Hub is formed of almost 30 organisations working to promote action on sustainable growth and the conference party reception events were sponsored by Mitsubishi Electric.

Mr Fahey added: 'As a UK manufacturer, we know we can play an important role in developing innovative, low carbon products that can reduce energy consumption in the built environment. We also know that the construction industry has the skills necessary to increase the amount of renewable energy in use in our homes and businesses and firmly believe that heat pumps can make an important contribution in reducing emissions levels and fuel bills, building by building.'

He concluded: 'No-one has a magic 'silver bullet' to solve the issue of climate change, but through the leadership of initiatives like the Sustainability Hub, I'm confident the construction industry can play its part in helping Government develop the policies that will lead and encourage efficiency across the board, so that the country can achieve the ambitious carbon reduction targets that have been set'.
