Mansfield Pollard sponsors student to go to Mexico

Air management expert Mansfield Pollard has strengthened its relationship with Skipton Girls’ High School by sponsoring one of its promising students to attend the International Science Exposition in Mexico.

Air management expert Mansfield Pollard has strengthened its relationship with Skipton Girls’ High School by sponsoring one of its promising students to attend the International Science Exposition in Mexico.

Rachel Brown was successfully shortlisted to represent the UK thanks to her innovative project, which has taken the concept of generating power through the use of simple magnets and copper coil generators to convert human kinetic energy into electrical energy, which produces enough power to charge a mobile phone.

Taking place from 6-12 December 2016, Rachel Brown will join engineering students from around the world for this ‘once in a lifetime trip’. The major Science, Engineering and Technology exposition attracts over 1700 delegates, who range in age from primary school children to undergraduate university students.

Rachel will be attending with other members of the Arkwright team and will be required to exhibit a dynamic, technology-based project that will engage exposition guests. The challenge will be to design an interactive exhibit that can be easily transported to Mexico with the Arkwright participants.

Other companies sponsoring Rachel are DS Smith, The Rotary Club (Skipton Branch) and Laing O’Rourke.

By nurturing links with Skipton Girls’ High School, Mansfield Pollard is further strengthening its position as an employer of choice in the area and continuing to promote the message that the manufacturing and engineering sector can provide stimulating and fulfilling careers.

Joanna Robinson, managing director at Mansfield Pollard, said: “We believe that we have a responsibility to educate and inspire students and motivate them to explore the varied and exciting career opportunities which the many disciplines within engineering have to offer. We are committed to encouraging students to make engineering their career choice and also to encouraging diversity within the sector. As a business it is really exciting to nurture students like Rachel Brown who could potentially play an important part in our firm’s future. ”
