Birmingham City University has invited expressions of interest for a main contractor to work on the first phase of its planned city centre campus.
Main contractor sought to build new university campus
Phase One of the new campus will consist of 28,000m2, to be ready in time for September 2013, when the university vacates its Gosta Green site.

The work consists of the design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover of the first phase. The university's estates department says this is part of 'a potential wider development' of a maximum of 55,000m2, to be delivered in the long term through additional phases.

The package of works may involve site preparation and enabling works, design / procurement and construction, fit-out and external works.

On July 30, the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) published the invitation for expressions of interest for the procurement of a main contractor.

The appointed design team, under the direction of the university's estates department, will develop the design for the reserved matters planning application of approximately 28,000m2, including a master plan for the maximum permitted development of 55,000m2. The team will then complete the design for 28,000m2 through to RIBA Stage E.
