Taking place on 9th October 2013 at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) in London, the awards scheme combines the CIBSE ASHRAE Graduate of the Year and CIBSE Employer of the Year awards.

The Graduate of the Year award is now in its 18th year and is organised by the CIBSE ASHRAE Group. It is the most sought after accolade for young engineers and the winner will receive a trip to the ASHRAE Winter Conference in New York. Two runners up will receive generous cash prizes and the judging panel includes the presidents of CIBSE, ASHRAE and the IMechE as well as the current graduate of the year Lee Tabis.

The Employer of the Year prize is for firms that have done most to support young engineers. These awards recognise those employers - large and small - who have shown excellence and innovation in developing the engineers of the future. They reward organisations who proactively champion young people in the industry, whether through a commitment to young people in employment or by supporting those employees through education.

The highly prestigious IMechE Construction and Building Services Division award for outstanding achievement will also be presented on the day.

'Young building services engineers hold the fate of the whole industry in their hands,' said Lochinvar managing director David Pepper. 'We have an ageing workforce and technology is evolving rapidly. The increasing use of digital construction methods and cutting edge design tools is an opportunity to present a new, modern image to the next generation. These awards help that process by giving the industry's future leaders a platform from which to demonstrate their talent, ideas and enthusiasm.'

Each of the Graduate Award finalists will give a presentation to a large audience in the IMechE lecture theatre. While the judging panel withdraws to consider its verdict, Nigel Banks, head of sustainability at the developer Keepmoat, and winner of the Graduate Award in 2005, will deliver the annual IMechE Construction and Building Services Division presentation on the topic of energy efficient refurbishment. He will be followed by ASHRAE president Bill Bahnfleth, who will deliver the annual ASHRAE Presidential Lecture, before hosting the prize giving ceremony. The event will conclude with an informal dinner in the IMechE Library.
