Join a Part P CPS before requirements change, urges certification body

Logic Certification is urging installers who may be considering joining a Part P Competent Persons Scheme (CPS) to do so now before the qualifying requirements change on 6 April.
Join a Part P CPS before requirements change, urges certification body
CPS currently stipulates the completion of 17th edition wiring regulations and demonstration of competence in installation, inspection, testing and certification. However, from 6 April, an appropriate NVQ Level 3 will become the pre-requisite for Qualifying Supervisors (QS) who require Part P CPS membership. Logic Certification says this is a considerably more time-consuming and costly proposition.

Mark Krull, from Logic Certification, said: 'The changes to Part P CPS requirements could prove a real barrier for smaller businesses and one man bands, who can't afford to take time out of work to complete an NVQ Level 3. If you are thinking of joining a Part P CPS this year, do it now, before the April deadline, as existing CPS members will not be required to meet the new stipulation.'

After 6 April, Qualifying Supervisors will need to have achieved the appropriate Level 3 NVQ Certificate - Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installation Work in Dwellings, or equivalent. Those responsible for all types of electrical installation will need to complete the new Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electro-technical Systems and Equipment (Building and Structures).

Logic Certification has launched a new Domestic Electrical Installer training and assessment package, which covers electrical work as outlined in the Part P Building Regulations and 17th Edition Wiring Regulations. Defined and full-scope options are available.
