J S Wright has joined Balfour Beatty, SummitSkills and others in welcoming a House of Commons report suggesting that apprenticeships should focus on quality and not just quantity.
The report by the Business, Innovation and Skills Committee (BIS) investigated the impact of the National Apprenticeship Service, current funding arrangements, and the quality of apprenticeships.
J S Wright is highly committed to its apprenticeship programme and over the past five years the number of trainees on its books has risen from 7 to 13 out of a 100-strong workforce.
Divided equally between its Birmingham base and new offices in London, the trainees are given all the skills, training and confidence they need to meet the company's exacting design, installation and maintenance standards. In 2007 it launched the JSW Academy.
Marcus Aniol, J S Wright's managing director, said: 'Quality apprentices are the bedrock of our business. Our young people are chosen for their enthusiasm and ambition and are encouraged to take an active and responsible role from early on in their training.'
