HVCA Newslink: Joint venture support

Chairman Jim O'Neil has confirmed that M&E Sustainability - the joint venture between the HVCA and the Electrical Contractors' Association (ECA) - will continue its sponsorship of the Centre for Efficient and Renewable Energy in Buildings (CEREB), which is currently under construction at London South Bank University.
CEREB is being developed in partnership with City and Kingston Universities to demonstrate a range of design measures and technologies that will reduce carbon emissions from buildings.

The design showcases the use of thermal massing, solar shading, ground source heating and cooling and solar thermal systems.

Further sustainable technologies will be demonstrated, including wind turbines, hydrogen fuel cells, combined heat and power and photovoltaics.

Both students and researchers will be able to study the building and its energy use via a building energy management system and extensive monitoring techniques.

It will also become the hub of the university's distance-learning postgraduate degree in building services.
