Hoval welcomes 'major boost to new green economy'

Hoval managing director Adrian Walker has welcomed the announcement of the Government's Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) proposals as a 'major boost to the new green economy through support for the UK wood heating sector'.
The RHI scheme will provide a guaranteed 'cash-back' scheme for wood fuelled boilers and other renewable heat systems, making long-term commercial investments viable. With more than 2000 commercial wood heating boilers now in place throughout the UK, the sector is set for significant growth, creating jobs in the wood fuel and wood heating boiler markets.

Mr Walker added: 'Hoval is one of the major UK biomass boiler companies with wood fuelled boilers installed and running throughout the UK in hotels, urban office developments, schools, hospitals and leisure centres. We also create jobs as we both design and manufacture in the East Midlands.

'Over recent years we have invested heavily in both technology and people to support the UK's move to a low-carbon economy. We hope that this RHI 'cash-back' measure will unlock significant commercial investments in our sector. There will be multiple benefits for the UK economy through the measure, including manufacturers such as Hoval, boiler installers and service engineers, and the wider UK wood fuel industry. In a time of very difficult economic conditions this will provide welcome green jobs and support high technology skills development.'

Well done to everyone in the biomass sector; clearly, you have done a good job convincing the Whitehall mandarins about your technologies. We in air source heat pumps are smarting today as we have been excluded. Why? Simple - our technology is not proven in the eyes of the Government.

We have a year of proving ourselves to them so we can be included next time round. I'm afraid a few dreadful installations have let us down. It's time for the industry to pull its socks up, kick out the cowboys and get on with it.
