HEVAR Seminar: Collaboration key to social housing budget cuts

Professor Peter Woolliscroft, managing director of CYNTRA, will highlight the housing sector’s pivotal role in managing construction budget reductions when he addresses the UK’s leading event for the heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration industry – London HEVAR on Wednesday September 22.
HEVAR Seminar: Collaboration key to social housing budget cuts
'By adopting modern techniques of procurement, open book, contract management, long term contracts and collaboration, providers will reduce costs and give themselves more choice about how to manage their budget restrictions,' insists professor Woolliscroft.

Since it was formed by 10 London arms length management organisations (ALMOs) five years ago, contracting authority CYNTRA has saved its members more than £25million on their costs.

At HEVAR, Professor Woolliscroft will emphasise the key responsibilities of the HVACR industry, recognising the key roles played by SMEs, which bring the technologies, experience and expertise that are so increasingly influential in this very relevant sector.

In bringing to life CLIP, the Integrated procurement model for the UK social housing agenda, Woolliscroft will argue that without strategic asset management and the skills and techniques required to keep the housing stock in sound condition, there is a risk the cuts will lead to a gradual decline in quality.

'The challenge ahead is not just to balance budgets but to get more out of what is spent. HEVAR is a fundamental forum for local authorities, ALMOs, social landscape and housing associations to form a collaborative group to work together before the cuts really do begin to bite,' he adds.

Further topical seminar sessions at HEVAR include: professor Martin Davis addressing Improving Procurement to Deliver the Low Carbon Agenda; an HVCA seminar addressing Safe and Sound, how Health and Safety Engineering is driving the Building Services Agenda; Payments as a Contractual Option by professor Rudi Klein and a CIBSE morning on The Law, The Money & You – how implementing austerity measures will keep on the right side of the law.
