Engineering services provider HE Simm is working on delivering innovative green energy MEP services for a new student accommodation build in Acton, North London.
Working with developer and contractor, George Downing Construction, the MEP scheme is aiming to achieve a BREEAM rating of 'excellent' and demonstrate the best in sustainable design.
The 80,000sq ft scheme will feature 184 studio apartments across two adjacent six- and seven-storey buildings, with a GP practice and retail units at ground floor level.
By incorporating LZC (Low and Carbon Zero) and renewable energy systems, HE Simm will deliver an overall 16% reduction in energy consumption. The entire south facing elevation on one block will house 47 solar pv panels to generate electricity for the building.
A CHP system with thermal store will be installed to supplement hot water generation. The buildings will be part mechanically ventilated, part naturally ventilated, with partial comfort cooling for peak temperature trimming. Overall, the scheme will achieve a 21% reduction in carbon emissions.
The MEP works are scheduled for completion in September 2013.
