G&H Sustainability director wins achievement award

Andrew Hudson, founder and managing director of G&H Sustainability, has won a Yorkshire Young Achievers Award.

Andrew Hudson, founder and managing director of G&H Sustainability, has won a Yorkshire Young Achievers Award.

In a ceremony held at Leeds United Centenary Pavilion, Mr Hudson won the Achievement in Management and Enterprise category for his efforts in developing the sustainability division of the G&H Group.

The award recognises the best examples of entrepreneurial spirit and management skills needed to succeed in today’s business environment.

Judges were impressed with 28-year-old Andrew’s vision to approach the G&H Group in 2011 with the idea of setting up a sustainability business specialising in low carbon building technologies.

This was alongside continuing his education, after spending the last two years studying for a M.Eng in Building Services Engineering and graduating from the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses programme.

Andrew also devotes time to CIBSE (Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers) as the regional chairman for the young engineers’ branch.

He said: “I’m incredibly proud to have won this really coveted award especially given the calibre of the competition. Yorkshire has some wonderful young business people so it means a lot to me.”

He added: “The work G&H Sustainability is doing is making a big difference to our clients and this is due to the hard work of all our staff, not just me.”

Managing director of the G&H Group, Graham Kelly, said: “Andrew is thoroughly deserving of this award and everyone at the company is delighted for him.

“From the moment he approach the Group with the idea of creating a renewables division it was clear he was very entrepreneurial and driven and he’s continued in this vein, making G&H Sustainability a great success.”

G&H Sustainability turned over £2m last year with clients including Asda, First Group and Harrogate Grammar School, while forging excellent working relationships with Balfour Beatty, Hobson Porter and ISG Construction.

The business offers building contractors and consulting engineers a complete range of advisory, design, project management and installation services.

Low carbon systems include solar photovoltaic panels, solar thermal, biomass boilers, ground and air source heat pumps, combined heat and power plants, wind turbines, rain and grey water harvesting and control and energy reduction strategies.
