Daikin calls in police over bogus website

Japanese air conditioning manufacturer Daikin has contacted police in Australia after the launch of a website which the company says falsely claims to be Daikin Air Australia and New Zealand. Daikin says it considers the website a serious breach of brand, copyright and intellectual property.
Strangely, the website www.daikinair.com, although promoting Daikin appeared to be selling Panasonic units online, although, this morning this particular page had been disabled by administrators.
Daikin Australia has said it has advised the appropriate authorities and is dealing with the NSW police, the Federal Police and the fraud squad who are investigating the situation.
Daikin has stressed to customers in the region that its products are only sold through accredited Daikin dealers and cannot be purchased online.
The Printing Industries Association of Australia has warned its members that a person using the name 'Rodney Packer' has been approaching printers via email in the region seeking the production of 100,000 flyers to promote the bogus website.
The association's Joe Kowalewski also claims that the official website for Daikin Australia had been attacked and taken off-line for a period.
