CORGI to launch student membership scheme

GAS safety watchdog CORGI is to launch a free student membership scheme this September for final year students working towards a career in the mechanical engineering industry.
Help and support will be given to anyone training to work in the gas, heating, plumbing or ventilation sectors with student members receiving many of the benefits of full CORGI membership, boosting their progression within the industry.

The advantages of CORGI student membership include phone or e-mail access to CORGI experts, an invitation to the organisation's national Installer Live show as well as to regional CORGI events.
In addition to discounts on products, student members also receive a copy of 'Gas Installer', the industry's monthly magazineand access to an online student area full of information.

Jonathan Palk, CORGI Marketing Manager, said:
'For anyone considering a career in the gas installation industry, CORGI membership is a legal requirement in the UK. Although student members will not be registered to carry out gas work, this is a great start to their career and also shows prospective employers that they have taken the opportunity to learn more about their chosen profession'.

The CORGI student membership scheme has been designed to encourage skilled and newly-qualified gas installers to the industry where demand for registered professionals is currently outstripping supply.

CORGI Student Membership is free for all final year students registered for one of the following qualifications:

N/SVQ 6012

Gas: N/SVQ 6012 (02, 03, 04)

Appliance pathway Route 21 and 31

Gas: N/SVQ 6034

Plumbing: N/SVQ 6089-03

Heating and Ventilation: N/SVQ 6088 (01, 02, 03, 05, 06, 07)

CORGI works for its members to promote gas safety to the public. Currently there are around 55,000 registered gas installer businesses employing over 1110,000 gas-fitting operatives.
