Conex and RLS settle patent lawsuit

Conex Universal Limited (Conex) has now settled the patent infringement lawsuits filed against it by press fittings firm RLS.

RLS filed its US lawsuit on January 22 2018, alleging that Conex had infringed claims of US patents 9,145,992 and 9,638,361.

RLS then filed its UK lawsuit on May 20 2019, arguing that Conex had infringed claims of EP (UK) 2 629 902 and EP (UK) 3 255 328.

The patents are related to RLS’s Rapid Locking System crimp fittings. RLS alleged that Conex’s >B< MaxiPro fitting is covered by claims of the patents, while Conex denied infringement and argued that RLS’s patents are invalid.

RLS and Conex have now agreed to settle the dispute and to dismiss all claims against each other.

Without admitting liability or infringement, Conex has modified its design and, after June 30 2019, will no longer sell the previous design accused of infringement.

Recognised around the world through the Conex Bänninger brand, and with a heritage stretching back over 110 years, Conex Bänninger provides connection and control solutions to customers in the plumbing, HVAC and refrigeration industries.

The company has more than three decades of experience in the development and manufacture of secure flame-free press fittings featuring the three-point-press utilised in the >B< MaxiPro range for air conditioning and refrigeration applications.
