CIBSE/ASHRAE takes sustainability challenge

THE CIBSE/ASHRAE Conference 2008, on April 29-30, plans to show the industry how it can navigate new legislation, cost, staff and sell sustainability.
The two day conference held by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers, will be held at Hilton Newcastle Gateshead Hotel in Gateshead.

On Tuesday, April 29, the conference sessions include 'Sustainability and the role of the building services engineer in the 21st century'. This session asks whether the 21st century building services engineer is a 'sustainability deliverer' or 'sustainability innovator'.

Ant Wilson, director of Faber Maunsell, considers how industry can be encouraged to bring building services engineers in at an earlier stage, so that they can plan to make a difference.

'Heat pumps - are they value for money?' is one of many sessions scheduled for April 30, Lee Marshall, engineering manager for Geothermal International examines the advantages and disadvantages of using heatpumps

On April 30, 'UK prospects for large scale geothermal heating and cooling systems' will be the subject tackled by Chris Underwood, Northumbria University's professor of energy modelling for the built environment.

Other speakers at the conference include Jeff Littleton, ASHRAE's executive vice president, who will address training for new legislation and accreditation.
