The three craft apprentices, Connor McNeill, David Breen and Alan Petrie, had the opportunity to work with 12 other apprentices from Lend Lease and other sub-contractors on the construction of the world leading facility.

Through its craft apprenticeship scheme, BBES says it is underlining its commitment to the creation of a skilled and sustainable workforce.

Lee Walters, learning and development manager at BBES, said: 'These apprenticeships can provide young people with the foundation they need to excel. The benefit to our business is clear. We are able to place people in the business who we know to be experienced and competent.'

BBES' mechanical, electrical and plumbing apprentices are recruited from across all regions in the UK, The apprenticeships last between two and four years and participants can achieve NVQ 2 or 3 in their chosen discipline. The apprentices are day released to colleges to learn their trades and disciplines and return to their regional sites to consolidate and put their skills to use into current projects.
