B&ES Yorkshire backs charity initiative

Sailing club commodore Paul Karran confirmed that the B&ES donation would go towards the purchase of equipment for use in the specially adapted sailing dinghies used for the Sailfree sessions.

Local members of the Building & Engineering Services Association (B&ES) have donated £2,000 to the Sailfree charity initiative at Otley Sailing Club in West Yorkshire.

The money was raised during the annual ball and training awards event organised by the B&ES Yorkshire Region, in partnership with training provider Building Engineering Services Training (BEST), at the Cedar Court Hotel, Bradford.

Part of Sailability, the charitable arm of the Royal Yachting Association, Sailfree provides around 1,000 sailing sessions a year to individuals with all types of disabilities and illnesses, who are thus able to enjoy a degree of freedom and independence usually denied them.

Daniel Ball, chairman of the B&ES Yorkshire Region, said: 'My fellow B&ES members and I are delighted to have been able to provide additional resources to this superb initiative, which carries out such valuable work right in the heart of our community.'
