Altecnic sponsors hospice golf day

For the 10th year in a row Altecnic, the provider of precision heating and plumbing components, has raised money for the Douglas Macmillan Hospice with a special golf day at Trentham Golf Club.

For the 10th year in a row Altecnic, the provider of precision heating and plumbing components, has raised money for the Douglas Macmillan Hospice with a special golf day at Trentham Golf Club.

One of Staffordshire's best loved charities, the ‘DougieMac' is the only adult-only hospice in North Staffs and provides care for people with a palliative or end of life diagnosis in the area - not just patients with cancer but also those with non-cancer life limiting illnesses.

The hospice cares for half of all patients in the region with a palliative illness and events such as the golf day help to ensure that its services remain free of charge to all patients 365 days a year, despite annual running costs of around £11.5m (equivalent to £22 every minute).

Over the last decade the event has raised more than £220,000 for the charity. The hospice's fundraising manager Alex Jade Ward-Brassington said it has been 'wonderful to have Altecnic's support for such a long time' and the golf day would not be possible without the company's involvement.

Alex added: 'We have several organisations who support the golf day - including our own CEO, the KMF sheet metal company, Bearings and Drives and Currie Young - and Altecnic always brings a range of excellent prizes to the day, such as trolley golf bags, which contribute hugely to the event's popularity. The Altecnic people have been real champions for us and have always been so pro-active in getting the charity's name out there in the wider community.'

Altecnic's managing firector Alan Sherwin, who is himself a keen golfer, commented: 'Celebrating 30 years in business this year, Altecnic is proud to sponsor the Douglas Macmillan Hospice's Annual Golf Day for the 10th year. As a local employer, it is important for us to support the incredible work carried out by the charity's dedicated staff and volunteers who help to improve the quality of life for so many people across North Staffordshire each year.'

Alan added: 'Our team always looks forward to the event and it is definitely one of the highlights of our golfing calendar. The whole day is great fun and it's a pleasure to meet old and new friends while supporting such a fantastic cause. It's important that we do all we can to raise as much money as possible for such a worthwhile charity.'
