ADCAS executive committee member, Simon Roxburgh, has been recognised for his outstanding contribution to improving payment practices in the construction industry by the National Specialist Contractors Council (NSCC).
Mr Roxburgh is managing director of Boyd & Co (Metal Workers) and represents ADCAS members in Tyne & Wear. He was named one of 14 Fair Payment Champions at the NSCC lunch on 21 November 21, as part of the NSCC's Fair Payment Campaign.
He said: 'The Fair Payment Campaign is an excellent initiative. In the current economic climate when margins are too low, it is vital to maintain a good cash flow policy. I have always been of the opinion that timely and fair payment is a crucial ingredient to the success of any company.'
He continued: 'My company, Boyd & Co (Metal Workers), pays all suppliers strictly in accordance with defined payment terms and in return we expect and receive a higher quality of service. In our industry I was able to demonstrate that others did not adopt this policy and collectively ADCAS was able to take suitable action to rectify shared concerns.'
The NSCC's award-winning Fair Payment Campaign was launched five years ago. Since then significant progress has been made in improving payment practices, particularly in the public sector where 57% of specialist contractors are securing nil retention and 44% are receiving payment within 30 days on their projects.
The Government is continuing its drive for prompt payment and Business and Enterprise Minister, Michael Fallon, MP recently delivered a warning to big businesses that they will be publicly named for failing to sign up to the Prompt Payment Code.
