Ziehl-Abegg invests €28m in EC production facility

Construction on the new site is scheduled to begin this summer and the relocation of the existing production facilities will take place in mid-2017. This will involve the relocation of 140 jobs from Künzelsau (Würzburger Straße) to the new building. In the year ahead the number of staff at the Hohenlohe Business Park is expected to increase from 480 to more than 620.

Ziehl-Abegg is investing €28m in a new EC production facility at the Hohenlohe Business Park in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, in response to increasing global demand for energy-saving fans and motors.

Until now, the energy-saving motors and fans have mainly been manufactured at the Würzburger Straße facility in Künzelsau. However, in order to almost double the production area to nearly 8,000m2 there is a need for a new building at the Hohenlohe Business Park. The existing site is already operating at full capacity and there is no further space to grow there.

The new building, with an initial estimate for construction costs of €11m, will be ‘docked’ on to an existing building. This will not only enable use of the existing loading ramps but also incorporate existing surfaces.

Chairman of the board at Ziehl-Abegg, Peter Fenkl, said: “We are equipping ourselves for the future. By doing this we are strengthening the position of Germany and Hohenlohe in particular as a production location.”
