A star-studded line-up, which included Newcastle legends Alan Shearer and David Ginola, said farewell to veteran footballer Steve Harper recently, when Newcastle Utd took on the AC Milan Glorie team at St James's Park.
Celebrating Steve's 20 years at the club, the Newcastle team included Peter Beardsley, Les Ferdinand, Joey Barton, Nikos Dabizas, Shay Given, Faustino Asprilla, Rob Lee, John Beresford, Lee Bowyer, Nicky Butt and Nolberto Solana.
They took on the AC Milan Glorie team, with Paolo Maldini, Christian Vieri , Franco Baresi, Paolo Di Canio, Gianluigi Lentini and Alessandro Costacurta, in front of a 50,000-plus Toon Army.
Following a thrilling match that was decided on penalties, the trophy was presented to Milan by David Dunn of Toshiba Air Conditioning (a division of Toshiba Carrier UK Limited) and Darrel Birkett of distributor Cool Designs Ltd, sponsors of the event.
David Dunn said: 'It was a once-in-a-lifetime occasion and the atmosphere was phenomenal. It's a rare thing to have such a collection of footballing greats on the same pitch at the same time, and the crowd appreciated every moment.'
He added: 'Everyone was so swept away in the atmosphere, the scoreline hardly mattered!'
The proceeds from the match were donated to the Newcastle United Foundation, Great North Children's Hospital and the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
