Swedish Energy Agency funds work to establish guidelines

ClimaCheck and SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden have been awarded funding worth €120,000 by the Swedish Energy Agency to lead the development of methods and guidelines for field measurements of the System Efficiency Index (SEI) - a method of verifying and improving the energy performance of air conditioning and heat pump systems.
'Methodology for analysis of energy data of heat pump and cooling systems' is part of the Swedish national research project Effsys+ and aims to improve energy efficiency in air conditioning, refrigeration and heat pump systems.

The project will start in Germany and the UK with ongoing work on the System Efficiency Index. The project will look to produce guidelines for cost-effective and practical methods for the validation of SEI through field measurements. Work will be carried out with the support of the Institute of Refrigration (IOR) in the UK and the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) and other national centres of competence.

Klas Berghof, ceo of ClimaCheck Sweden, said: 'I am convinced that this is one of the many important steps to improve the efficiency of cooling and heat pump systems and the quality of work in the European RAC industry. Without a measured baseline performance it is almost impossible to initiate cost-effective optimisation of a plant.'
