Independent heating contractor, BSW Building Services, has hosted two German apprentice students at its Haywards Heath site in Sussex, during a four week work experience programme.
Philipp Kühnhöfer and Adrian Hauber, from the Stuttgart area, were invited to the UK as part of the Baden Württemberg Scholarship Board's work experience programme, which provides opportunities to work abroad for young Germans in a variety of industries. The two apprentices work for heating contractors in Germany and visited BSW to gain experience of the heating and building services industry in the UK. It also enabled them to engage with BSW's experienced field engineers and expand their knowledge and experience.
For the first part of the visit, Philipp and Adrian were involved in domestic heating installations working hands-on alongside experienced BSW fitters and Service Engineers. During the second half of their stay the apprentices worked with a commercial installation team at a school in Horsham, West Sussex, helping to replace over 2,500 metres of pipework and 180 radiators.
Troy Bellière, operations director at BSW, said: 'The work experience proved a resounding success, both for us and the apprentices. While the apprentices learnt the way we work at BSW, its services and operation, our staff picked up ideas from them and got to see the industry from a fresh viewpoint.'
