Staff at Ideal Boilers continue with charity fundraising

Staff from Ideal Boilers have been raising funds to help Elly West, the wife of Rory, one of the company’s production operatives, who was recently been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.

Staff from Ideal Boilers have been raising funds to help Elly West, the wife of Rory, one of the company’s production operatives, who was recently been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.

A series of events, including an employee boxing match and an angling competition have raised over £3,500 towards the costs of home adaptations for Elly.

Ideal staff raise funds for charities all year round, with a new one nominated every month. Fundraising activities include collections within departments, raffles and a weekly ‘casual’ Friday.

Recent causes to have benefited from the generosity of Ideal’s staff include Abbie’s Fund which supports the parents of babies who are stillborn or die shortly after birth, providing memory boxes for them through Hull Women & Children’s Hospital and other local hospitals.

One other charity recently supported by Ideal staff is Team Uganda. Former Ideal employee Andy Robinson, whose wife Dawn still works in customer services, travelled to Uganda at the end of June with pupils from Hull Collegiate School, to support the Great Lakes High School in Uganda. This school was established in 2008 and funded entirely by charitable donations. There are now 332 pupils studying there.

It costs £180 to sponsor a child for a year’s education (including accommodation and food). Andy’s target for 2015 is to raise £1,800 and thus sponsor 10 children, with the casual day at Ideal raising enough to sponsor one child.  As part of his fundraising efforts Andy and some friends completed a 42 mile sponsored walk across the Yorkshire Moors.

HR manager, Debbie Skalli, praised the efforts of staff: “The team at Ideal is incredibly strong, supportive and generous. This is reflected in the charity work that our staff do and it’s nice to be able to acknowledge and celebrate their incredibly generous spirit.”
