SkillFRIDGE ace reaches WorldSkills international final

Orlando Rawlings, SkillFRIDGE 2017 silver medallist, has been selected to represent the UK at the WorldSkills international competition in Russia later this year.

Orlando Rawlings.

Mr Rawlings, who works for Daikin UK, will join the UK’s brightest apprentices and students in making up Team UK for the ‘Skills Olympics’ at WorldSkills Kazan 2019.

More than 30 young professionals have made the cut, hailing from a range of sectors including engineering, hospitality, professional services, construction, digital and IT.

The team selection process took place from March 5-7 at Nottingham College, where Mr Rawlings was joined by SkillFRIDGE 2016 gold medallist Luke Courtney of Cross Refrigeration NI.

Since their successes in the national SkillFRIDGE cycle, both competitors underwent 25 days of skills training on work organisation, communication, service and installation, and design and commissioning.

Head SkillFRIDGE judge and owner of Coriolis International, Mark Forsyth, said: “Luke offered a magnificent challenge throughout the event and is to be commended for his achievements. Luke will remain an ambassador for RAC skills competitions and hopefully support future talent in Northern Ireland, along with Chris Bailie who won the silver medal in Brazil 2015.

“For Orlando, he now embarks on a further five weeks of intensive competition training aimed at further developing his technical and emotional intelligence in order to find success as part of Team UK at the Skills Olympics in Kazan, Russia.”

The 2019 WorldSkills international final will take place from August 22-27.
