Safety sparks HVCA's welding update

The Heating and Ventilating Contractors' Association has updated its guide to welding.
Safety sparks HVCA
'JS5 Welding Safety' offers health and safety advice to building services engineers on the best way to carry out welding work, identifies potential risks in the welding trade and covers gas, bronze, metal welding and cutting.

The guide was updated with help from the Electrical Contractors' Association and members of the Mechanical & Electrical, Health, Safety and Environment Committee (MEHSEC).

This fourth edition of JS5 Welding Safety also offers guidance on first aid treatment, reflecting changes to H&S regulations and improvements in equipment.

The guide was first issued in 1978.

'Manual handling, such as moving heavy objects, i.e. gas bottles and transformers, remains one of the biggest causes of injury at work' said Alan Keating, HVCA technical & safety advisor.

JS5 Welding Safety is available from HVCA Publications. For a copy visit www.hvca.org.uk/publications
