PH Jones fights carbon monoxide poisoning

Property maintenance and multi-utility metering services provider PH Jones is helping raise awareness of carbon monoxide poisoning by alerting consumers to the dangers, promoting awareness and providing training for all its engineers.
Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week 2010 started on Monday November 15 and aims to highlight the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning and how to spot a dangerous appliance.
Carbon monoxide (CO), known as 'the silent killer', is a toxic gas, it is colorless, odorless and tasteless. When it enters the body, it prevents blood from taking oxygen to cells, tissues and organs. Even low levels of CO can cause serious harm to health as a result of prolonged exposure.
PH Jones maintains 500,000 domestic and commercial properties across the UK and said it was committed to ensuring every customer has access to information about the dangers of carbon monoxide. Recent campaigns have included implementing the latest industry innovations, such as the Residential Inspection Aid and distributing free leaflets.
Martin Jones, Managing Director from PH Jones, said: 'In order to reduce the risks of carbon monoxide poisoning, it is important to have gas appliances safety checked annually by a Gas Safe engineer. We are thoroughly committed to consumer safety and fully support Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week, and will continue to work closely with our clients to play our part in helping to reduce CO poisoning and deaths.'
Lynn Griffiths, the founder of the charity Carbon Monoxide Awareness, added: 'Carbon monoxide kills 50 people a year and leaves many more with long term health problems. It's a hazard that most families know little about. This week we will alert home owners to the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning. Events will be held throughout the country kicking off with a launch event at the House of Lords followed by another in the House of Commons that afternoon. Articles and leaflets will be distributed throughout the week.'
