Pettigrew steps up as B&ES chief executive
New B&ES president Bruce Bisset has complimented Mr Pettigrew on his 'unrivalled understanding of the association' and a deep appreciation of members' needs.

'Rod has worked closely over the past two years with the officer team in developing a vision and strategy for B&ES,' he said.

'I am delighted, therefore, that he will be taking the leading role in its implementation.'

In his first day in his new post, Mr Pettigrew acknowledged that the Association, and the sector it serves, faced very significant challenges. 'The continuing recession, technological advances, radical changes in working practices and the imperatives of the low-carbon agenda mean that the industry must be prepared to adapt to the developing requirements of the marketplace,' he said

'It is essential therefore, that B&ES members are able to rely on us for the expert advice, guidance and practice support they will require in the challenging days ahead. I am determined that they will not be disappointed.'

Mr Pettigrew is a member of the council of the Confederation of British Industry and of the policy board of the United Kingdom Contractors' Group, and is general secretary (UK) of GCI-UICP, the European umbrella body for the HVACR and plumbing industries.

Mr Pettigrew's appointment comes after Blane Judd stepped down from the position in May.

Separately, Bruce Bisset succeeded Sue Sharp to the presidency of B&ES for 2013/14 at its annual general meeting on Thursday 11 July 2013. Ms Sharp will serve as immediate past president for 2013/14.
