HygroMatik is offering a calculator and an absorption distance nonogram on their website, available to help consultants in the design process.
HygroMatik is providing online solution and learning aid for consultants as it says specifying the correct absorption distance proves to be the most prevalent post design problem for consultants, and is as important as working out the required amount of steam in the air handling unit.
The absorption distance nonogram is a special industry standard diagram that helps the consultant work out the correct absorption distance. It takes into account factors such as the volume of dry air and the moisture content to arrive at a workable distance to achieve the desired levels of relative humidity. This diagram can serve as a portable tool that aims to improve the efficiency, longevity and quality of the air handling unit.
The consultant can input a variety of measurements such as the velocity, total air volume and the required steam output and the HygroMatik calculator will provide the correct absorption distance.
The tool aims to tackle the problems associated with calculating insufficient absorption distances. If the absorption distance is not treated as a priority, problems can occur almost immediately, resulting in an unhygienic and insufficient humidification. Issues such as leaking water will occur due to a process known as 'wetting out' where the air becomes obstructed due to inadequate absorption distances. Confusion can also exist over who is to blame for the failings of a system.
The absorption distance calculation is also covered by Hygromatik during their CIBSE backed CPD seminar which is free to consultants.
