Olympic boy dives for gold with ABS

Britain's golden boy Tom Daley, the 13 year-old diver competing in the Beijing Olympics, can thank ABS London for helping him go for gold.
Olympic boy dives for gold with ABS
Founded in 2000 by Tom's uncle Kevin Selvester and Tony Smith, the building services contractor, formerly known as Airtech, has been sponsoring the athlete since December 2006.

Tom dived to victory at the 2008 European Swimming Championships in Eindhoven in March, where he won gold by beating off competition from world class divers, all of which are at least five years older than him.

'It's a very exciting time,' said Tom. 'I've got the Beijing Olympics just around the corner and the promise of the London 2012 Olympics to look forward to, although that's a long way off!

'Everyone has worked so hard to help me make it to Beijing. My Uncle Kevin, whose company is ABS London, has even given me a van to travel to training and competitions, and ABS is making it possible for the entire family to cheer me on in Beijing,' he added.

ABS specialises in mechanical and electrical engineering within the construction and refurbishment industry.

As well as providing Tom with an all-year-round fully expensed vehicle to take him to training, the firm has paid for Tom's parents and two brothers to fly to Beijing and stay in a hotel for the duration of the olympics.

Tom hopes to go for gold in the individual 10 metre platform competition and will have his family to cheer him on.

'Becoming an olympic calibre athlete, not only requires talent, but a large financial burden,' says Kevin. 'We are delighted to be able to help out Tom and the family.

'Tom has an incredible talent and the whole of ABS will be cheering him on in Beijing. My business partner Tony and I will be there in person, supporting from the sidelines!'
