OFTEC extends course in response to increasing demand

OFTEC’s new commercial assessment course, which covers the servicing and commissioning of multi stage burners used in many light and medium commercial heating systems, is now available in 11 training centres across the UK and Republic of Ireland, with more expected to launch the offering soon.

OFTEC’s new commercial assessment course, which covers the servicing and commissioning of multi stage burners used in many light and medium commercial heating systems, is now available in 11 training centres across the UK and Republic of Ireland, with more expected to launch the offering soon.

OFT 10-201 is proving popular both with technicians moving into commercial work for the first time and those who are already working in non-domestic environments. In response to this high demand, the course will be rolled out across further locations in the months ahead to enable more technicians to benefit from the expert training and assessment on offer.

Providing theory and practical-based assessments for two and three stage pressure jet burners connected to space and water heating appliances, the course covers areas including health and safety, fire valve installation, regional requirements, safe electrical isolation, OFTEC procedures, knowledge of oil storage and supply and also appliance installation.

David Knipe, OFTEC training manager (pictured), said: “Feedback from technicians on the OFT 10-201 course has been extremely positive. Experienced commercial technicians are finding the details on commercial oil storage, risk assessment and procedures particularly useful, whilst those who are new to multi-stage burners are equipped with the confidence to work on commercial appliances, expanding their business opportunities.”

He continued: “Demand for the commercial course has been high since its launch this summer so we will be extending the offering to further locations over the next few months.”

EOGB Energy Products, the burner manufacturer based in Cambridgeshire, is one of the UK centres currently offering the OFT 10-201 course.

The company’s technical director Martin Cooke said: “As a burner manufacturer ourselves, we fully understand the importance of high quality training and always aim to offer the best, in depth experience possible for technicians.

“We welcome OFTEC’s move into the commercial training sector. The excellent OFT 10-201 course provides valuable opportunities for technicians looking to enhance or expand their businesses and we also add extra burner training, free to charge, to ensure the highest industry standards are maintained. We anticipate strong demand for the offering.”

OFTEC’s commercial assessment course is also available at the following locations:

Blackburn College, Blackburn

Boilerserve.com Ltd, Burslem, Stoke on Trent

Complete Construction Training Services, Belfast

Flixborough Training and Assessment, Scunthorpe

METAC, Mountrath, Republic of Ireland

David Knipe of OFTEC added:  “By extending our assessment offering into the commercial sector, we are able to further increase our support for OFTEC registered technicians and their businesses.

“As OFTEC continues to evolve, so too will our offering to provide the best, progressive services and guidance to meet the changing needs of our industry.”
