NG Bailey withdraws from BESNA

NG Bailey has become the second major contractor to withdraw from the beleaguered Building Engineering Services National Agreement (BESNA).
The move follows a meeting which is understood to have taken place on Tuesday between HVCA chief executive Blane Judd, Martin Bailey of NG Bailey and Unite Union general secretary Len McCluskey.

An NG Bailey statement said: 'Following the announcement from Balfour Beatty Engineering Services last Friday, the future of the BESNA is now untenable. NG Bailey can therefore confirm it will withdraw the BESNA contracts and will continue to work to the current working rule agreements.

'The company welcomes Unite's statement that it is committed to wide ranging talks on modernising the industry.'

Big thank you to Mr Judd for helping to organise the industry and showing us how strong we can be. This industry will never be the same again. You've helped carry out the biggest union recruitment campaign in the history of the JIB and unionised thousands of sparks. The rank and file thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Three cheers for Mr Judd, hip hip...
