Net Zero commitment gains speed for Nuaire

Ventilation manufacturer, Nuaire, has unveiled steps to deliver net gain across its business areas and managed spaces, in a bid to build towards a Net Zero emissions target for 2050.

The company has this week unveiled its Net Zero strategy, which commits the Welsh-based manufacturer to overhaul its operational infrastructure in order to minimise its impact on the environment by 66% by 2025 without off-setting – and reach full Net Zero status by 2050. This will be measured against a 2015 baseline.

The business sees its need to lower its carbon footprint as fundamental, to help ensure a prosperous future for the planet, to stay in alignment with the UK Government’s strategy and to maintain its market leader status within the industry.

Each of Nuaire’s business areas have specific targets in place that contribute to a goal of delivering towards the Net Zero targets, from sales to waste management and packaging. The firm is striving to become a Net Zero business by 2050, with the target applying to emissions across all scopes.

Nuaire is already changing company vehicle policy to include the adoption of electric vehicles and hybrid electric, this includes warehouse forklifts and sales staff as well as wider employee incentives to move towards personal electric vehicles, LED lighting in all dispatch bays, working with supply chain partners with a commitment to decarbonisation and ultimately bringing all operational sites in line with scope 1 and 2 criteria, as measures to help deliver this aim.

The company has reduced a quarter of carbon emissions in 2020 for its Caerphilly HQ manufacturing site operations, scoping feasibility of implementing ISO 50001 across the division and become a rated company on both the Ecovadis and CIPS sustainability indexes.

Leading this path to decarbonisation is board director, Stuart Smith, who said: “Absolute emissions reduction is a priority for us as a business. At this point, our real net zero strategy begins, and we must ensure that year on year, our carbon reduction is in alignment with science across all scopes.

“We are getting a lot more requests for sustainability related information by our key customers, who through their own sustainability strategies, need to understand how we compare to our competition. Our approach puts us in a very favourable position within our industry and market leaders in our proactive approach and it is vital we maintain this momentum in the coming years.

“We’re looking forward to reporting on our progress and learnings annually, supporting our supply chain partners, staff and customers, and ensuring that our work has measurable and positive impacts on people and the planet.”

Nuaire started to use a screw compactor for its wood recycling and committed to zero waste to landfill back in 2015. These efforts, alongside revised science-based targets for 2025 will position the manufacturer as market leaders within this arena and as a result, it hopes to attract more custom and like-minded supply chain partners.

The company's Net Zero roadmap is being rolled out across the entire ventilation and climate division of the Genuit Group, which also includes the Domus Ventilation, UFCM and Nu-Heat brands.
