Kershaw plays key role in Waitrose store refurbishment

Kershaw Mechanical Services has been involved in a major refurbishment and extension project at the Waitrose store in Bath.

The company supplied services worth £1.1m, including the installation of a new plant room, boiler house, air handling units on the second floor and ductwork throughout, which was manufactured in-house at its Cambridge workshops.

In addition, cold rooms were installed into the first floor warehousing by the refrigeration contractor. In the food retail areas, traditional refrigeration units were replaced by hydro-carbon units and cold aisle retrieval systems implemented to provide heating and cooling to the shop floor.

Kershaw also installed two new chillers on the roof with 108mm carbon steel pressed pipework that feeds chilled water to all refrigeration cabinets on the sales floor. Overnight working was required to ensure the store was ready for trading each morning.

The floor area was increased from 16,000sq ft to 40,000sq ft, enabled by expanding into the adjacent space next door, previously occupied over two floors by mixed use retail units whose leases had come to an end.

Ian Greenstock, sales director at Kershaw Mechanical Services, said: 'We have been fortunate to work for Waitrose for over 20 years now and during that time we have completed over thirty refurbishment and new stores projects. We are proud to have delivered the mechanical services for the Bath shop to programme, so that Waitrose and its customers can enjoy the busy Christmas trading period.'
