Ideal Boilers: making ErP simple

Following the introduction of the EU’s new Energy related Product (ErP) Directive on 26 September, Ideal Boilers has developed an online calculator to make ErP calculations simple.

The new ErP Directive is intended to ensure that space and water heaters meet minimum efficiency requirements. The regulation is in two parts – Ecodesign and Energy Labelling.

Ecodesign defines minimum levels of efficiency for boilers with an output of up to 400kW and manufacturers will be responsible for ensuring products comply with the regulations.

Energy Labelling (on boilers with an output of up to 70kW, which covers most domestic boilers) will mean homeowners can compare the energy efficiency of products to reduce their energy consumption. Manufacturers will be responsible for supplying labels for their products and a standard table of information relating to that product, known as a ‘fiche’.

Installers supplying a complete heating system will be responsible for creating and providing householders with the Energy Label and fiche. The online calculator at http://idealboilers.com/installer/erp-calculator/ will help installers as it enables them to input efficiency data for a boiler + control + solar product (where applicable) to generate a package label to give to their customer. It includes all boiler and controls areas values through a ‘pick list’, so that installers don’t have to look up values in supporting documentation. It simplifies inputting the solar values, which will include approximately five figures from the manufacturer’s supporting installation manuals. Finally, the installer will be able to print/save/email the label once it is generated.

Ideal is helping installers throughout the entire ErP process – from customer service support; to being included in all training courses; to online blogs, infographics and the new calculator and via Twitter 24/7.
