The ICOM Energy Association has exceeded its fundraising target of £2,017 for the construction industry charity, CRASH, with a final total of £2,160.

The money was raised through a number of sponsored activities, as well as a collection at the ICOM annual lunch. All of the funds will go towards helping CRASH deliver construction-related projects to help homeless people and hospice charities.

ICOM member, Strebel, was the biggest individual contributor, raising over £730 by completing the Three Peaks Challenge in just 13 hours and 26 minutes. Steve Baker, technical and project engineers supervisor at Strebel recalled: “We knew it was going to be a real challenge for us as we are not the fittest or youngest. It was cold, wet, windy and very hard. But this was only for one day – a taster of what some homeless people must go through every day of their lives.”

Other participants included staff from ICOM and the Energy and Utilities Alliance. ICOM director, Ross Anderson, commented: “ICOM, its members and sister organisations fully support the work that CRASH does and we have seen considerable generosity during the 2017 challenge. This has been a great way to join forces and raise money for an exceptional charity whilst also having fun.”

CRASH's fundraising and events manager, Kate Marsh, added: “We are really grateful to ICOM for organising this challenge and to all their members who took part. CRASH is supported entirely by the construction industry and we can only continue our work with homeless and hospice charities thanks to the support of the industry and organisations like ICOM.

“On behalf of all those who are homeless or receiving end of life care in a hospice, please accept my sincere thanks. Your support really does make a difference to people when they are at their most vulnerable.”
