Members of the Heating and Ventilating Contractors Association and Electrical Contractors Association have been asked whether they want both associations to become a single organisation representing M&E contractors.
In a survey mailed to members of the HVCA and ECA on January 24, recipients were asked to support the concept of convergence and the formation of a convergence board to examine member views on the subject and come up with a single organisation model.
The HVCA has 1,400 members and the ECA has 2,500 members, but both have an overlap made up of about 200 larger members.
The two associations have been working together in the same building for the last 30 years.
Speaking on January 25, at the HVCA's new year press lunch, HVCA president John Miller said 'The outcome of this member survey- while in no way binding in itself- will be reported to the councils of the two associations at their meetings in March and April this year...at which some decisions may be taken that could have a great deal of significance for the sector.'
